Gillian Hinkson has been appointed as the new President of Make-It Springfield, a community-driven makerspace in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts.
Make-It Springfield serves as an inclusive hub for artists, makers, and entrepreneurs, offering workshops, shared workspaces, and collaborative opportunities.
The organization focuses on fostering creativity, skill-sharing, and community engagement by providing resources for individuals to explore hands-on learning in arts, technology, and design.
Founded in 2016 as a temporary pop-up collaboration between UMass Amherst and the City of Springfield, Make-It Springfield quickly evolved into a permanent space due to strong community support.
Today, it continues to support local creators through events, tool access, mentorship, and programs tailored to Springfield’s diverse population.
Hinkson brings a strong background in leadership, community engagement, and creative entrepreneurship to her new role. Prior to this appointment, she served on the board of Make-It Springfield.
She is also a board member of Brotherhood On the Move and the League of Women Voters Northampton Area.
Additionally, she serves as a Trustee at The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, where she contributes to investment strategy, scholarship assessment, and trustee governance.
In her political endeavors, Hinkson holds an elected position as a Democratic State Committee Woman, co-chairing the Affirmative Action and Outreach Sub-Committee to advocate for representation and inclusion.
Through Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Beta Alpha Zeta Chapter, she curates community programs aimed at elevating public awareness and education.
Academically, Hinkson earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Communication and Information Management from Bay Path University.
Professionally, she serves as a Victim/Witness Advocate at the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, providing support and ensuring justice for those in need.
In her new role as President, Hinkson aims to lead Make-It Springfield into a new era of growth and impact, focusing on serving a broader and more diverse community of makers, artists, and entrepreneurs.
